The Cochrane Musculoskeletal Review Group (CMSG) is a specialised group of researchers and consumer representatives that belong to the Cochrane Collaboration, an international not-for-profit organisation that encourages informed decisions about health care by preparing, maintaining and promoting reviews of the effects of various health care treatments. The CMSG has an editorial base in Canada, and a Satellite branch at the Monash Department of Clinical Epidemiology at Cabrini Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
CMSG members review the best available scientific research to determine the best evidence to support specific treatments for arthritis, osteoporosis and other conditions affecting muscles bones and joints. They explore the evidence for and against the effectiveness and appropriateness of treatments (medications, surgery, education, etc) in specific circumstances. The results are medical reviews that are then included in The Cochrane Library (www.thecochranelibrary.com) and made available to health professionals around the world.
To promote access by members of the public to information that can assist them in making informed decisions based on evidence concerning health care practices, the Cochrane Musculoskeletal Review Group have summarised their reviews into plain language summaries. They've agreed to try their best to use nonmedical language and to post them on this page as soon as they become available.
Each plain language summary is a summary of a regularly updated, systematic review prepared and maintained by The Cochrane Collaboration, and is available at The Cochrane Library (www.thecochranelibrary.com)
